The Best Authors of Crime Fiction?

AbeBooks: The Best Authors of Crime Fiction

A list from AbeBooks today of the best crime fiction authors. Allegedly. I can't believe such a list could include Gillian Flynn but not Ngaio Marsh, Margery Allingham or Patricia Wentworth. Or Hazel Holt. I recommend Malice Aforethought, BTW. It's worth following the link to see the book covers. I do love some of the old paperback covers, like this one.

Which of your favourite crime fiction authors has been left out?

Good grief. I can't believe that 1) Val McDermid's not in there and b) Gillian Flynn is. Flynn's Gone Girl has got to be the most over-rated crime novel ever.

I know you're keen on Val McDermid and she is an established crime writer. But GF? It's not as if she's written a successful series. I can think of half a dozen more worthy modern writers.
Peter May and Elmore Leonard. I'm sure there are others.... G K Chesterton.

So many omissions!
To be fair, they do say it's only a small sample.

That said, they should have included Kate Atkinson with her Jackson Brodie series.

Two all-but-forgotten authors I have a fondness for are Margaret Millar (I love Banshee) and Liza Cody (Bucket Nut). Their books are hard to come by so I've only read a few, but I find their style superior to most crime fiction writers.
I don't know Millar or Cody but yes, Jackson Brodie. I love those books.
No Michael Innes either...
True!
