‘Your’ best authors ever. Not mine.

The Book Depository recently had a poll on people’s ‘best authors ever’. Never backward in coming forward with my opinions, I voted for my top five. The results were out yesterday and can be seen here.

How can Evelyn Waugh be missing from such a list? And who on earth is George R R Martin? Don’t tell me; I just looked him up. Good grief.

A better mix of old and new than Greatest 100 Songs lists, though!
Probably, but these lists are always slanted towards the most recent books/tracks. Jane Austen is a pretty consistent winner, though!
"Good grief" indeed. I heartily agree.
Good! Someone has just posted an anonymous and I think rude comment telling me 'not to get the vapors over it'. It's just my opinion!

People have no taste...

because they like authors you don't like?

I didn't think it was such a terrible list even though many of my favorite writers weren't on it. It's just a popular vote from the few people who bothered to fill it out, no need to get the vapors over it.
Hee! The original list was better than the people's choice.

I thought so!
I think George RR Martin is a decent writer. I was given the first Game of Thrones books to review when they came out many years back and everyone thought it'd be a bogstandard fantasy potboiler. It was a pleasant surprise.

I wasn't dissing him in particular and I believe you.
I think we've had this conversation before :-) There's good and bad fantasy but I don't really like any of it.
