Jean Simmons

News today that Jean Simmons has died. For me, she will always be the beautiful Estella in David Lean’s 1946 film of Great Expectations.
"He calls the knaves 'jecks', this boy!" Wonderful.

For me she will always be Sergeant Sarah Brown getting drunk and falling for Marlon Brando in Guys and Dolls.
Always remembered, then!

My gosh, I was just thinking of her yesterday when I heard a song, What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life and was reminded of the old film, The Happy Ending. I remember almost nothing about it now, except Jean Simmons and that song. I love her in a more recent film, and one of my all time favorites, How to Make an American Quilt -have you seen it? Really great actress.
No, I've never seen How to Make an American Quilt but it sounds good!

I love American Quilt because it features some older women in terrific roles. We see them young and old. We see what has happened in their pasts. Oh, it's just a perfect movie, to me.
Jean Simmons is one of those actresses who rather disappeared from the English scene. I think this was more common in her day than now.
